 For two years now
Back to Full Blog

I cant stand this any more! My wife was deeded a house. She took care of her father in his elderly years. There for he left her his house.
Her older brother; whom she also took care of, left her his share of the fathers will.

The 4 other siblings never said boo. The youngest brother needed a place to live. so he lived in the house for 2 years.

We finally sell the house to said youngest bother.
During the SALES POSSES I say nothing.

The Youngest brother talks WIFE into dropping the lawyer.
To make a short story, short; we got screwed!
She sold the house then split the money.

We paid taxes on the whole thing!

Now they don't want to make good on their fair share!
They do not get the fact that we could have had everything!
But we split it evenly! Now they say so what...

SrWilliam:

I think your wife was too trusting of her brother. Sometimes an inheritance can bring out the worst in siblings. That's why we have lawyers. I am sorry that it happened that way.

Sorry about this ripoff - I guess the milk has been spilled - and I don't know of any recourse. I am unsure why you got stuck the tax bill???

If you were not able to have your wife agree and understand your more
logical side of the equation then it comes down to blood family and you. When it gets to that point, "You" are at a disadvantage. Hope it
will improve things and things get better for all concerned..

Hi William,
Sounds like you did get screwed royally. But as Cracker mentioned when family is involved in something like your situation, let us just say the family comes out smelling like a rose. Hate to hear stuff like this happening to anyone.

I've seen this happen so many times in families and it is so very sad. It literally rips families apart. I know the deed is done but you are in my thoughts.

Never, but never do business with a relative or friend without an attorney who is representing you. Yikes. This is why sometimes relatives are people you really want to maintain a long distance relationship with if at all. I am so sorry you are going through all of this. It sounds like some of my inlaws.

That sucked! Sounds like BIG brother needs to whip up on little brother.
Family is the worst when it comes to money. You loan your sister or brother some money & "you'll get it when I get it". Um, that wasn't the agreement. It doesn't matter cuz "it's ONLY...(sibling)..."

I hope there is something she can do, but it doesn't sound like it.

Hard lesson learned.

Unfortunately I too have seen it done to my friends and family. It is a very sad situation. When it comes to money, it seems everything goes out the window sometimes concerning loyalty and family love. Just think that God is watching everything that is happening and your wife's siblings won't be too happy when they have to answer to the Higher Being. We have just been studying Joseph the last few weeks in our Bible Class, yet no matter what his brothers did to him, he forgave them. Now that was a tall task to be certain. Talk about the ultimate betrayal between siblings. WOW! Take care and I have found that prayer and forgiveness goes a long way not only for peace of mind, but to God's loving heart. Blessings, Karen
